Princeton hosted its seventh Open Hackathon, bringing together nine teams of researchers collaborating to make research software run faster and more efficiently.
Launched in 2019, the annual Hackathon is hosted by the Princeton Institute for Computational Science & Engineering (PICSciE) in collaboration with NVIDIA and the OpenACC organization. But this isn’t a hackathon in the traditional sense. “Instead of competing with each other, the teams are competing with themselves,” said Sepideh Khajehei, a senior developer advocate for NVIDIA who also acts as a mentor to participating teams.
Over four days, the researchers hunker down to improve their projects, aiming to see significant gains in speed and performance – which, in turn, can accelerate and deepen their research.
